Why Global Buyers Choose Party Supplies for Christmas Decorations? Most buyers source Christmas decorations wholesale from China because that is where most of the world’s supply is made. China exported more than US$5.9 billion of Christmas articles in 2024, according to UN Comtrade data. That volume brings the widest product range and the lowest unit costs.
Many buyers go a step further and order from party supply factories, not ornament-only makers. A party supply factory can make a whole Christmas range in one order: tableware, candles, cake toppers, banners, gift bags and cards, with matching designs.
Key takeaways
- China exported more than US$5.9 billion of Christmas articles in 2024 (HS 950510). That is far ahead of the next suppliers, such as the Netherlands and India.
- Yiwu in Zhejiang province is the main hub. Its Christmas exports reached 5.17 billion yuan (about US$733 million) in the first three quarters of 2025, up 22.9% year on year.
- Party supply factories suit the tabletop, party and gift side of Christmas. Artificial trees and electric lights usually come from specialist factories with electrical certifications.
- Buying several Christmas categories from one factory gives you matched prints, one shipment and one quality check.
- The Christmas sourcing year starts early. Buyers pick samples from December to March and place orders in spring, and factories ship from June to August.
- For Christmas 2026, only ready stock or air freight is still realistic. Custom Christmas 2027 orders should go in by early July 2027 for the US East Coast.

How much of the world’s Christmas decor comes from China?
Most of it. UN Comtrade data compiled by Statista shows China exported more than US$5.9 billion of Christmas decorations in 2024. The Netherlands and India were among the next-largest suppliers, both far behind.
An earlier Visual Capitalist analysis of UN Comtrade data put China’s share at 87% of global Christmas decoration exports in 2020. That figure excludes candles, electric lights and natural trees. The same data showed the United States buying about 57% of all Christmas decoration imports.
For a buyer, that concentration means three practical things:
- Range. Almost any Christmas item, print or material you want is already in production somewhere in China.
- Price. Factories buy paper, foil, wax and plastic in volume, and suppliers of those materials sit nearby.
- Comparison. You can get several quotes for the same item within days, which keeps pricing honest.

Why is Yiwu called the Christmas capital?
Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang province, is the center of China’s Christmas trade. Xinhua reported that Yiwu ships more than 20,000 festive product varieties to over 100 countries each year. Its Christmas exports reached 5.17 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2025.
Yiwu is not the only hub. Chenghai in Shantou, Guangdong, is another major Christmas manufacturing center. The Global Times reported that factories in both cities ran at full capacity from June to late August 2025 to fill spring orders.
You do not need to fly to Yiwu to buy there. Most buyers work directly with a factory by email and video call, approve samples by courier, and visit only for large or long-term programs. PartySparkz, for example, manufactures in Hefei, Anhui, and works with overseas buyers this way, sending samples for approval before production starts.
Why buy Christmas stock from a party supply factory?
Christmas shoppers buy more than tree ornaments. Plates, napkins, candles, cake toppers, gift bags and cards sell in the same weeks and to the same shoppers. A party supply factory makes all of these, so one supplier can fill most of a Christmas aisle.
Buying across categories from one factory gives you:
- Matching designs. The same Santa or snowflake print can run on plates, napkins, cups and a banner. A shopper can pick up a whole matching table setting in one go.
- One shipment. Mixed items can share one container or one LCL booking, instead of three shipments arriving on three dates. PartySparkz accepts mixed orders across its Christmas categories, with each design meeting its own minimum.
- One quality standard. A single factory applies the same inspection to every carton, so you only audit one supplier.
- Better MOQ terms. A larger total order gives you more room to ask for smaller quantities on individual items.
What Christmas products does a party supply factory make?
Here is the Christmas range PartySparkz lists across its catalog:
| Category | Christmas examples | Where to see them |
| Tableware | Christmas paper plates, cups, napkins | Party tableware |
| Cake decorations | Santa hat, pine cone, Christmas tree and teddy bear candles; cake topper sets with trees, reindeer, snowmen and “Merry Christmas” signs | Cake decorations, Christmas cake topper set |
| Gift packaging | Christmas paper bags; velcro-seal Christmas bags in 12–24 cm sizes | Velcro Christmas bags |
| Decor | Christmas banners and flags | Wholesale Christmas decorations |
| Cards | Christmas greeting cards and festive card sets | Greeting cards |
| Accessories | Christmas party glasses with snowman, reindeer and Santa designs | Christmas party supplies |
What a party supply factory is not the right source for
Artificial trees and electric string lights are made in specialist factories. Lights need electrical safety approvals for your market, such as UL listing in the US or CE marking in the EU. Source those separately from a supplier that holds the certificates.
Candles and children’s items also need the right test reports for your market. Ask for these before you order. PartySparkz holds Sedex, BSCI and FAMA factory audits. For product test reports, name your destination market when you request a quote, so the right report can be matched to each item.

How to keep unsold Christmas stock from going to waste
Split your range into two groups when you plan the order:
- Carry-over basics. Solid red, green, gold and white tableware, plain candles and undated gift bags. Whatever doesn’t sell can go back on the shelf next year.
- Trend prints. Character designs, this year’s color story and anything printed with a year. Order these tighter, because they rarely sell the following December.
Put most of the volume into basics, and use a smaller run of trend prints to freshen the display.
Do US tariffs change the case for sourcing from China?

They change the math, not the source for most party goods. US duties on Chinese imports have changed several times since early 2025. Get the current rate for your exact HS code (Christmas articles fall under 9505.10) from a customs broker before you set retail prices.
Two changes matter for smaller importers:
- The end of de minimis. The US ended duty-free entry for low-value parcels in August 2025. Posting single orders from China now attracts duty on every parcel. A consolidated bulk shipment, with duty paid once, is usually the cheaper route.
- Landed cost comparisons. A factory in India or Vietnam may face a lower duty rate. Compare total landed cost, including range, MOQ and freight, not just the tariff line.
Some buyers now split Christmas sourcing between countries. For paper tableware, candles, cake toppers and printed party goods, China still offers the widest choice of designs.
What EU buyers must check on Christmas tableware
The EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive (2019/904) has banned single-use plastic plates and cutlery since 3 July 2021. The European Commission’s guidelines treat paper plates with a plastic lining or coating as single-use plastic too. So a plastic-laminated Christmas paper plate cannot be sold in the EU, however little plastic it contains.
The directive also covers two other party items:
- Cups that contain plastic, including plastic-lined paper cups, must carry the EU’s required marking.
- Balloon sticks sold to consumers are banned.
For EU orders, ask the factory to confirm in writing that plates are free of any plastic lining or plastic-based coating, and that cups carry the correct marking. PartySparkz’s paper plate range includes bagasse options, so ask which Christmas designs are available without a plastic lining.
When should you order Christmas decorations wholesale?
For custom Christmas stock, place the order by early July for the US East Coast and early August for the US West Coast. Experienced buyers start much earlier. Xinhua described a Kuwaiti buyer in Yiwu choosing Santa hats in December 2025 for the following Christmas.
The Christmas 2027 sourcing year looks like this:
| When | What happens |
| December 2026 – mid-January 2027 | Review what sold this season. Request samples of new designs. |
| Around 6 February 2027 | Chinese New Year. Most factories slow down for two to four weeks, so finish sample approvals before mid-January or wait until March. |
| March – May 2027 | Confirm orders and artwork. This is when most large Christmas orders are placed. |
| Early July 2027 | Latest custom order date for sea freight to the US East Coast |
| Early August 2027 | Latest custom order date for sea freight to the US West Coast |
| June – August 2027 | Factories run their peak Christmas production and shipping. |
| 1 November 2027 | Stock on shelf |
The order dates allow 14 days for artwork approval and 30 days of production. They use Flexport’s August 2026 median time from factory to leaving the US port: 38 days for the West Coast and 66 days for the East Coast. Add 10 days for delivery to your warehouse. PartySparkz quotes 15 to 25 days for standard production, plus 10 to 15 days for custom orders, which fits within these allowances.
Is it too late for Christmas 2026?
For custom printing by sea, yes. You still have two options: ready-stock designs the factory already has in production, or air freight. Air freight works best for light, high-margin lines such as gift bags, cake toppers and candles.
