Party Accessories Wholesale: What Sells Best in the US, Europe and South America

Party Accessories Wholesale What Sells Best in the US, Europe

The accessories that sell best in each region follow its biggest local occasions. In the US, those are graduation, the Fourth of July and Halloween. In Europe, they are milestone birthdays, carnival and Oktoberfest. In South America, they are children’s birthdays, Carnival and Brazil’s Festa Junina.

The core items, such as balloons, tableware, banners, wearables and photo booth props, sell everywhere. The difference is in themes, colors, wording, and the rules each market applies to what you ship.

Key takeaways

  • US demand clusters around graduation (May–June), the Fourth of July, and Halloween. NRF expects US shoppers to spend US$4.3 billion on Halloween decorations in 2026.
  • Licensed characters sell heavily in the US, but they need a license. Generic themes such as dinosaurs, jungle safari and unicorns avoid that problem.
  • In the EU and England, plastic plates, cutlery and balloon sticks cannot be sold to the public. Paper and fiber versions are the default.
  • Europe rewards local occasions: Oktoberfest wearables in Germany, orange King’s Day goods in the Netherlands, and adult milestone birthday sets across the region.
  • In Brazil, toys and children’s products need Inmetro certification. Festa Junina in June and Carnival in February are the two big seasonal peaks after birthdays.

What party accessories sell best in the United States?

US demand is built around a few big occasions each year, plus steady birthday and baby-shower business:

Licensed characters: big sellers you can’t copy

Movie and TV characters are a large part of US kids’ party sales, but only licensees can make them. Unlicensed character goods can be seized at the border and expose the importer to legal claims.

If you don’t hold a license, build your kids’ range around generic themes that don’t need one: dinosaurs, jungle safari, unicorns, mermaids, space and construction. PartySparkz’s jungle safari range is one example.

Year-dated stock carries risk

“Class of 2027” or “Happy New Year 2027” items sell only in that season. Leftover stock rarely sells the following year. Order dated lines tightly, and put most of the volume into undated designs (“Congrats Grad”, “Happy New Year”) that carry over.

US rules that affect party accessories

  • Latex balloons need the CPSC choking hazard warning on the retail pack (16 CFR 1500.19).
  • Children’s products, such as kids’ glasses, masks and props for under-12s, need third-party testing and a Children’s Product Certificate.
  • Country of origin must be marked on the retail packaging, for example “Made in China”.

What party accessories sell best in Europe?

Europe is many markets with different calendars. A range that works in Germany will not automatically sell in the Netherlands or the UK. These are the occasions worth stocking for:

For Oktoberfest, PartySparkz’s order data puts themed tableware, wearables (Bavarian hats, novelty glasses and headbands), balloons and banners, beer-stein accessories, and photo booth props at the top. For New Year, it lists year-number balloons, wearables, tableware and champagne flutes, and photo booth props. See the Oktoberfest range and the New Year range.

The plastic rules below also push European ranges toward paper decor, such as honeycomb balls, paper garlands and bunting, and away from plastic tableware and balloon sticks.

EU and UK rules that change what you can sell

EU and UK rules that change what you can sell
  • Single-use plastics. Plastic plates, cutlery and balloon sticks cannot be sold to the public in the EU (since July 2021) or England (since October 2023). Plastic-lined paper plates count as plastic. Paper cups containing plastic need the EU marking.
  • Balloons and children’s items. These are treated as toys and need CE marking (or UKCA in Great Britain) and EN 71 testing, including the warning text on balloon packs.
  • An EU contact on the pack. Under the EU’s General Product Safety Regulation, consumer products need an EU-based responsible person named on the product or packaging.
  • Novelty glasses and masks for children fall under the toy rules too, including EN 71-2 flammability.

PartySparkz novelty party glasses are mainly paper and lightweight materials, which keeps them outside the plastic bans. Children’s versions still need toy testing.

What party accessories sell best in South America?

Children’s birthday parties are the steady base of the market, and two big seasonal festivals sit on top of them:

MarketOccasionWhenAccessories that move
BrazilChildren’s birthdaysYear-roundThemed balloon arches, backdrop panels, dessert-table decor, cake toppers, favor bags
BrazilFesta JuninaJune (centered on São João, 24 June)Small paper flag bunting (bandeirinhas), checked-pattern tableware, straw hats, rustic paper decor

Spanish-speaking countriesQuinceañera (15th birthday)Year-round“Mis XV” banners, tiaras, sashes, gold, pink and pastel balloon sets, elegant tableware
Across the regionNew Year’s EveDecemberYear-number balloons, white and metallic decor (white is traditional for New Year’s Eve in Brazil)

Bright, saturated latex balloon colors and metallic finishes suit the region’s large family parties. Balloon arches and garlands are a staple of birthday decor. See PartySparkz latex balloons for current finishes.

Carnival 2027 and Chinese New Year overlap

Carnival 2027 runs from 6 to 9 February. Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027, and most Chinese factories slow down from mid-January.

Carnival goods need to be in shops in January anyway. In practice, that means finishing production and getting the goods on the water by early December 2026. The sea route from China to South America’s east coast is longer than to the US, so treat that as a latest date, not a target.

Rules and costs for South American imports

  • Brazil’s Inmetro certification. Toys and children’s products for under-14s need Inmetro certification from an accredited body before they can be sold, with Portuguese labeling. Check with a certification body whether your balloons, glasses and masks fall within scope.
  • Brazil’s import taxes. Imports face several layers of federal and state tax on top of the customs duty, so landed cost can be far above the factory price. Work it out with a Brazilian customs broker before quoting retail prices.
  • Language. Brazil needs Portuguese packaging text, and most of the rest of the region needs Spanish. “Feliz Aniversário” and “Feliz Cumpleaños” are separate print runs.
  • Country-by-country differences. Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru each have their own import regimes. Confirm the requirements with a local importer or broker for each market.

Frequently asked questions

Which party accessories sell in all three regions?

Balloons, including number balloons and garland kits, themed tableware, banners, photo booth props, and novelty wearables such as glasses, tiaras and sashes. The core product is the same. Colors, wording and occasions change.

Can one design work across the US, Europe and South America?

Often, if it has no text or uses universal text such as numbers. A “Happy Birthday” banner needs separate English, Portuguese and Spanish versions, and each is its own print run.

Do I need different packaging for each region?

Usually, yes. Warning labels, language, and importer or responsible-person details differ between the US, EU, UK and Brazil. Plan separate pack artwork per market even when the product inside is the same.

Can I sell licensed character party goods I buy from a factory?

Only if the factory or you hold a valid license from the rights owner for your market. Without a license, choose generic themes.
